The music of the French native, Valencia-based cellist Matthieu Saglio combines influences from all around the Mediterranean, from North Africa to Southern Europe. He first gained international recognition as a member of the trio "NES" and the album "Ahlam" in 2018. Soon after Saglios' solo debut "El Camino de los Vientos" earned huge success, especially in the digital world, and has been played over seven million times on Spotify alone.
His new album "Voices" continues on the same musical path, emphasizing the characteristic most often attributed to the sound of the cello: its similarity to the human voice. The album features singers from different parts of the world: Susana Baca (Peru), Alim Qasimov (Azerbaijan), Natacha Atlas (Belgium), Nils Landgren (Sweden), Wasis Diop (Senegal), Anna Colom (Spain) and Camille Saglio (France).
In “Voices”, Mathieu Saglio, with his quartet and a fascinating roster of guest vocal soloists from many countries, follows a bold dream. “Voices” builds on the success and the momentum of Saglio’s previous ACT album “El Camino de los Vientos'' (2020), a 'varied musical journey through the Mediterranean, Africa and Asia.'(JAZZTHETIK). Both Fono Forum and Stereo magazines in Germany made “El Camino” an album of the month, and Jazz-Rhone-Alpes had it as their best album of the year.
